Author Biography

Gered Mankowitz was born in London in 1946. In the fall of 1965, he toured the United States with the Rolling Stones as their official photographer. He produced several album covers for them, including December’s Children and Between the Buttons. Along with Hendrix and the Stones, Mankowitz photographed many other famous musicians, including Traffic, the Yardbirds, Marianne Faithfull, Elton John, and George Harrison. Mankowitz has exhibited his photographs in museums and galleries throughout the world, and his work has appeared in numerous books and magazines. Richie Unterberger is a well-known music journalist who writes for Mojo, Record Collector, Rolling Stone, Oxford American, and No Depression. Unterberger is also the author of the “Rough Guide” series including The Rough Guide to Jimi Hendrix as well as several volumes on music history such as Turn! Turn! Turn!: The '60s Folk-Rock Revolution, The Unreleased Beatles, Unknown Legends of Rock'n'Roll, and White Light/White Heat. Unterberger lives in San Francisco, California.
