This book provides the basic background for a general computational methodology for multi-scale modelling, and shows how the methodology can be applied to different fields of biomedicine, in particular orthopedics and cardiovascular medicine. The authors begin with a description of the relationship between multiscale modeling and systems biology, then they proceed systematically upwards in hierarchical levels from molecular, cellular, tissue to organ. Following this, the focus shifts to an examination of multiscale modeling applications in specific areas: mechanotransduction, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular.
