Summary

'It's never too late to pick up this series.' - BooklistShe's a girl. She's a space-pirate.She's Sardine - and she's back! With four Sardine books now published in the U.S., our favorite red-headed space pirate (about whom Kirkus said: 'Resistance is futile' in a starred review) has a growing number of young fans.Eleanor in Brooklyn told us, 'I like it that they live on a spaceship.'Toby, age seven, wrote to say: 'I like all the tricks Sardine thinks up.'AndJane in California demanded 'More, please!' Now appearing in her fifth collection of ten side-splitting space adventures is Sardine, her stories told in engaging, scribbly artwork by Emmanuel Guibert.

Author Biography

Emmanuel Guibert is one of the most talented comics creators in France today.  As well as Sardine in Outer Space, his works include Alan's War, an extraordinary biography of his late from Alan Cope, an American WWII verteran, and The Photographer (with Didier Lefevre), a graphic novel about the war in Afghanistan.

Review in 5/1 Booklist

Ten new stories successfully show off Guibert’s intrepid heroes and nasty villains. Sardine, L’il Louis, and kindly pirate Uncle Yellow Shoulder assist a shy fellow in finding his true love, outwit

Supermuscleman and Doc Kroc when the latter attempt to turn everyone ugly with a scamcorder, investigate the unlikely discovery of a cadaver, and greet visiting cousin Manga, who hilariously reconfigures their features to resemble those in eponymous Japanese comics. Among the other bits of delightful silliness is the hiring of a punctuation-reciting schoolmaster—school being desirable as the harbinger of summer vacation. Sardine’s fans encompass a variety of age groups, and Guibert’s visualverbal textual puns will engage many; the bright, loopy renderings of a subway system and its myriad denizens, and Supermuscleman’s absurd physique, will be blissfully familiar to Sardine fans. This wonderfully wacky combination of art and text is guaranteed to enlist new devotees.
