Summary

Muller offers candid (and personal) advice on dealing with countertransference, exploring the problematic ways in whichtherapists may act on feelings that get provoked in the course of therapy with avoidant clients. Detailed case examplesand vignettes highlight the steps for building a strong clinician/client relationship, but also serve as a warning for howeasily avoidant clients can disengage from the therapeutic process. Also covered is the issue of early therapy terminationand what to do to keep clients on track and engaged throughout treatment. Trauma and the Avoidant Client will enhancethe skills of all mental health practitioners and trauma workers, and will serve as a valuable, useful resource to facilitatechange and progress in psychotherapy.
