Summary

A whimsical story that has four multi-cultural children imagining what life would be like as a pet parrot. Join parrots and children as they climb all around the house, over furniture and up the curtains with four-toed parrot feet, then chew wooden spoons, popsicles and popsicle sticks, and even a telephone directory with their hooked parrot peaks. The parrot fun continues with eating delicious vegetables like broccoli, squawking, talking, bathing, and finally snuggling down for the night. The "For Creative Minds" section has parrot fun facts, tips for taking care of a pet parrot and a make-a-beak craft to supplement learning. All Sylvan Dell titles feature free educational resources at www.SylvanDellPublishing.com, including the "For Creative Minds" sections and additional teaching activities.

Author Biography

Katherine Rawson was inspired to write this book by watching her own pet parrot, Shadow, a small green parrot with a big personality. When she is not playing with parrots, reading or writing about them, she teaches English as a Second Language at a community college and works as a freelance writer. She is a former elementary school teacher. Katherine lives in Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC.Sherry Rogers (illustrator) spent twelve years as a corporate graphic designer and artist before leaving it ôall behindö for the freelance world. Sherry has developed quite a unique style of painting digitally on her computer. Just like a ôtraditional artist,ö Sherry sketches by hand. When happy with the composition, she scans it into the computer. Just as she would use a ônormalö paint brush, she paints her illustrations stroke for stroke on her computer in her program of choice, Photoshop. She laughs that the paint clean up is much easier than it used to be! She is currently working on her second book for Sylvan Dell, Burro's Tortillas. Sherry lives with her husband and two children in Northern California.
